Abstract

This study aimed to assessing the effect of some mnemonics on ninthgrade- students recall of information in light of student gender and learning motivation. Subjects of the study were 257 students (130 males and 127 females) chosen randomly from seven different schools in Salt city/Jordan. A learning motivation scale was applied on the students who were accordingly divided into 4 groups. Students of each group were trained on one of the remembering strategies: loci, narrative, key word and awareness. A remembering test developed by the researcher was applied before and after the training sessions. Results of three - way covariance revealed significant differences among students of the 4 groups in the remembering level. Students of high motivation performed better than other groups. Students who were trained on both the narrative and the key word strategies were superior to those trained on the loci and awareness strategies. On the other hand, no differences were found due to students’ gender.
